Karumba live exports live another day
22 January 2010
Live cattle exporters in north west Queensland have been assured trade with Indonesia is safe.
Karumba port was up for sale, but no buyer could be found.
Graziers were worried it would be closed unless another buyer could be found.
Sid Parker, from current Karumba exporter South East Asian Livestock Services, says he would never allow this to happen.
He says his company is in negotiations to keep the port open.
"We've had quite a reaction from the people up in the north up there the graziers," he says.
"It's very very essential for their welfare that the port of Karumba is kept open for the export of cattle."
"We'll be doing everything possible to keep the facility open."
