Animals Australia's Investigations
Over the past 30 years Australia’s live export industry has exported over 150 million animals to the Middle East – to countries where there are no laws to protect them from acts of cruelty. During this time, some 2.5 million have died enroute.
Animals Australia’s four investigations in the Middle East since 2003 have revealed that these animals may well have been the fortunate ones. They have also revealed Australia’s live export industry’s culpability in the cruel treatment of all animals in the region. Millions of local people throughout the region believe that Australians approve of their treatment of animals due to our willingness to supply them.
Rather than inspiring desperately needed change we are reinforcing long held beliefs that their treatment of animals is acceptable and that animals are simply chattels to be traded and slaughtered.
