How you can help
Live animal export is immoral, inherently cruel, and indefensible.
With the election finally over, now is the time to make your views known to Kevin Rudd and your local Federal MP and candidate.
Prime Minister Rudd has been willing to right injustices that previous leaders were unwilling to confront. It is now time to right the injustice of live export.

1. Tell your MP that you want this cruel trade in animal suffering to end.
Contact Kevin Rudd - key points to include, sample letter and contact details
Personal letters to politicians have significant impact. Each is noted as an indication of issues that are of public concern. If your name and address is provided – politicians must respond. Local members and candidates are as important as party leaders as they exist to express your views in parliament.
Over 36,000 sheep died enroute last year despite industry & government claims that they have the best standards in the world. Equally damning is the belief in the Middle East that Australians (that’s you and me!) approve of their treatment of animals, through Australia’s willingness to supply animals to the region. All animals in the region continue to suffer as a result.
Letters do not need to be long – in fact, you can simply express your opposition to the trade and that you will not vote for a party that supports live animal export.

2. Gather support—download our Live Export: Indefensible petition.
Animals Australia has already collected more than 180,000 signatures opposing the live export trade in the last 2 years, making it one of the largest petitions every tabled in the Senate. Our next target is 200,000 signatures from caring Australians calling for an end to this terrible trade. Seeking signatures on the petition is also a great way to keep this issue in front of the community.

4. Generate press coverage
Write letters to your local newspapers to express your views on the live export trade and to inform more people about our campaign. Keep letters short, highlighting the key points; the cruelty, and the fact that the presence of Australian animals in the Middle East sends the clear message that Australians must think that cruelty is acceptable – otherwise, we wouldn’t send our animals there.
5. Contribute to our campaign to expose and end this suffering.
Without the financial support of our members and supporters, we would not have been able to expose the cruelty of the live export trade. Animals Australia has visited the Middle East four times, and has informed hundreds of thousands of people about the plight of the animals being sent to endure painful handling and slaughter: the financial support of our members and supporters made this possible. Please join our united voice for an end to this indefensible trade – please sponsor an investigator, donate to and / or become a member of Animals Australia.

7. Give your time – be a voice for Australian animals.
These animals cannot speak for themselves; their plight has for too long been silently ignored. Join the Animals Australia volunteer network and give a voice to these animals in your local area. You can leave leaflets in local shops, give them to friends and family, and organise a leaflet distribution in your area. We also have Volunteer Packs available free of charge (containing leaflets, stickers, and leafleting tips) for people who want to help end the suffering of these animals—email volunteers@animalsaustralia.org for more details.
Even if you have never done something like this before,
now is the time to speak out for Australian animals.
Please help us to end this indefensible trade in animal misery.
